I have a problem with my PC starting up. It claims there is no signal, i.e. monitor not connected. However, this is not true. I have checked and double checked and triple checked all connections. The monitor itself is not faulty, because if I leave the PC on with “No Signal” still displaying sometimes I come back to it n it has booted up and is at the login screen, so I know the monitor/dvi cable/graphics card are not faulty, but instead are just choosing to be temperamental.
I do not have a spare graphics card/monitor to try it out with but can anyone suggest any reasons as to why this might be happening?
Additional Points:
1.My monitor cable has got screws and they have been screwed in properly
2.I have removed and reinserted graphics card and cables
3.The PC goes straight to No Display then the monitor turns off as if in standby. It doesn't go to POST screen
4.My Monitor has its own power supply
5.I cannot start safe mode/reinstall drivers because it wont turnOn

Have already answered this question > But will try to clarify
Are you on this computer NOW when posting this question??? If not test the monitor on this computer.
IF you are (BECAUSE you have stated that after a while the computer starts up) then you need to do some diagnostics on the PC >
Check the eventviewer > look in the system and application folders > look for any errors > click on the errors then look at the description
>> google the description > this can give you vital clues
ALSO when you first start your computer up and the display goes into no signal > do you get a POST beep from the computer (POWER ON SELF TEST) > if not then this is pointing to a hardware problem with you computer > ie hard drive > cpu or mobo
Once you computer starts up and then you shut down > try booting up again > does it do the same or does it boot ok? If boots ok then may point to a problem with the hard drive >
Remove the graphix card and then plug the monitor into the vga slot - see if you have the same problem > if not then problem with the graphix card > if so then pointing to a problem with the mobo
Just to CLARIFY - then monitor going to NO DISPLAY means that the monitor is self testing - after a while it will go to power saving mode ie go into standby
Hope this Helps

That is quite a strange problem, hardware usually either works or it doesn't.
It seems you have tried most of the things I would have suggested. My only remaining suggestion would be to check the monitor cable and make sure it is not bent/wound up as this can damage the cable. To test this I would borrow a monitor cable from a friend. You could also check the pins in the connectors are not bent or just dirty which might also cause this behaviour.
The worst case senario is that your monitor is failing in which case it may stop working altogether soon. I hope thats not the case. Good luck

You may have a "negative" grounding problem.......long shot but I've seen it before. Open the PC case and disconnect the main 20 or 24 pin power supply cable from the motherboard. It's the largest cable so you can't miss it.
Wait a couple of minutes and plug it in again. Close the case and reboot. Hope this works.

Check your pins on your monitor cable, make sure none of them got bent. If one has, it may caus einternitant trouble with whatever pin it is not toutching. Use a needle or tweesers to straighten it out slowly so it does nto snap from being bent again.
If all is good i would replace the video card, possibly it may be malfunctioning.
Hope this helped :)

could be a memory problem, take them out and re seat, make sure you touch the chassis (metal part) before touching the memory, any static in you will discharge through the chassis and not through the memory modules, other thing to look for, when it sometimes boots up ok, have you noticed that the system clock has reset back to whenever, if so then cmos battery needs changing, it could even be a faulting power supply.

do a reboot, and continually press the DEL button (even before reboot!) if the post screen still won't show or let you into the bios then it's a bios fault!
if u have floppy for mainboard insert and the restart machine, this will rewrite the basic bios!
reboot (taking out floppy) and press DEL again, and you should now have a working bios!
ensure settings a right, and this will sort the prob out!
if it doesn't the the card is faulty, put the spare into check this (and if you still have the prob it IS a fault in the mainboard!)

something with the registry seems to be fairly tousled from the sounds of it.. there are some strategies.. a million) use your xp cd, boot from it and on the 2nd setting up instant (as you prefer to hit enter on the 1st), the place it assessments for previous homestead windows installs then asks in case you prefer to place in returned or fix it, hit r to commence a fix setting up.. this determination keeps each and every thing you have already put in and something you have in places like my documents.. 2) wipe the force and commence clean (however in case you have documents you may desire to keep, hook the force up as a slave in yet another gadget and get it off till now your format c: /u /q 3) deliver the gadget to a working laptop or laptop keep.. (this could be a final motel option, or the least confusing in case you have somewhat funds to spend and sense safer having somebody else fix it)
