An overflow is a small opening that is near the top of the sink basin. It allows the water to run down the outer part of the basin into the drain. It prevents thh sink from flooding the house in the event the faucet is accidentally left on or if you forget to turn it off for some reason. Usually they are built into the sink by the sink manufacturer.

**It will not prevent a flood if the drain has a blockage**

Hope this was helpful for you.

A kitchen sink overflow is a small hole near the top of the sink that allows water to go to the drain once the sink gets so full. It helps to prevent water from running over the top of your sink if you accidentally leave the water running into sink a little too long.

Just because you have a sink overflow doesn't mean it will keep it from overflowing. The water from the faucet can still possibly come out quicker than the overflow can drain it out, but it does help an overflow from happening as easily or as quickly.

Normally they are built into most bathroom sinks and most every bathtub, but they typically aren't built into many kitchen sinks.

You will find it at the top of the sink or the tub. They both have them.
