i think the pc might be doing that because the CPU is over heated and the fans turn on to cool it down. my pc does that when the CPU usage is high for a period of time. try loosing all the high CPU usage processes using atl+ctrl+del. you can find out which ones are.

sounds like there's a piece of hardware that is overheating!

many, many reasons for this and none are to do with the amount of programs you have!!

if you are doing something that takes a lot of processor power (ie:movie editing ect) then this is now't tae worry about!!

this also applies to gaming as the graphics card will be stressed a bit more!

if you are doing nothing that you wouldn't normally do, and there is no rise in room temp, then hardware prob could be the cause!!

download a hardware monitor and run a system check, this wil tell you basic info about your pc, the chip could be hotter therefore the fan will have to work harder to cool pc!

go to www.computeractive.co.uk and download a hardware utility that will tell you temprature of hardware and run.

else the fans off balance and the noise is the only difference!!!!

When you say "going of" - do you mean switching on... or switching off?
If you mean switching on... then it may be that the ambient temperature is higher and it need to cool down a bit.... if you mean switching off... then maybe the reverse is true.
I wouldn't get worried about it unless the machine starts to completely switch off.

Mine done the same. I needed a new power supply unit. I think it was about 15pound. And very easy to fit. You'll know when its finnaly gone, mine smelt of burning rubber.
