This is one of the most coincidental curses ever scrutinized since the Sports Illustrated magazine cover curse before the Super Bowl (every team on the cover before that game loses - with Chicago on the cover just this year to add to the string of losses).
However, there is more coincidence than curse. Would EA want to lose money by jinxing the player on the cover? Besides, look at the various players that have been on the cover.
- Barry Sanders was tired of the situation in Detroit and ultimately retired from the NFL. Anyone who knows Barry Sanders would tell you that money was never the issue (if it were, he would have stuck around to break the record AND make some extra coin by really pushing the cover appearance).
- Michael Vick has never been a solid QB. He had a mediocre year, but the media hype pushed him onto the cover over other players while other players like Peyton Manning (NFL MVP) and Tom Brady (Super Bowl MVP)were overlooked. Vick is turning more into a curse for Atlanta than being the victim of the Madden Curse.
- How can someone be cursed when having better statistical seasons? Ask Eddie George I guess. His prodcution may have dropped overall, but he remained a solid RB until injuries plagued him towards the end ... which is the curse that almost ALL players suffer in their career!
The sad part about this is that bad things happen and everyone wants to make up a reason why it happens instead of accepting that some things may happen for other reasons or no reason at all. If EA really believed in the curse, or worse yet instigated it, don't you think that they would put players on the cover that people don't like at the time? This way, EA would be voicing the opinions of Madden Nation and be sending a message to those players to shape up . . . or the curse will get you.

properly, it is kinda weird and wonderful do not you think of? '01: Eddie George accompanied up by skill of having a undesirable season, and him and the Titans complete third interior the branch and ignored the playoffs '02: Culpepper have been given injured, had terrible numbers, and the Vikes had their worst checklist considering that 1986 '03: Marshall Faulk battles injuries, and terrible numbers in his following season, the Rams omit the playoffs, and Faulk has his worst season considering that 'ninety six '04: Mike Vick breaks his leg an afternoon after Madden'04 is going onto the cabinets. The Falcons pass directly to win a whopping 5 video games and end almost ineffective final '05: Ray Lewis in basic terms approximately broke the curse.....till he broke his hand and ignored one or 2 video games. The Ravens did not do too poorly, they made the playoffs.....yet Lewis nonetheless have been given injured, it replace into additionally the only season he did not checklist an INT in his occupation '06: Donovan McNabb shows out why he's not a shielding participant whilst he gets flattened by skill of a Cowboys shielding lineman after throwing a p.c... he's out for some weeks, and the Eagles pass from the super Bowl to lacking the playoffs. '07: Shaun Alexander breaks his foot and is sidelined for a minimum of a few weeks, no sign yet on the way it is going to impact the Seahawk's season. Will it take place next 365 days? Who is conscious, whether it is sort of an eerie accident do not you think of? I recommend 7 years in a row?

I dont know. It could be due to the fact that alot of the cover player is coming off his best year in his prime and be worn down but that doesnt explain the season ending injuries and the teams barley making or completly missing the playoffs. I think they need to put Madden back on the cover because if this "Coincidence" keeps going they wont be able to get anyone to do it.

Madden 2000 - Barry Sanders = retires after the damn lions wouldn’t trade him.
Madden 2001 - Eddie George = hampered by injuries, didn’t come close to his production from the pervious year
Madden 2002 - Daunte Culpepper = season ending knee injury and end up with a 5-11 record
Madden 2003 - Marshall Faulk = pervious 2 seasons, a monster in running and receiving, but in 2003, INJURIES INJURIES and oh yea INJURIES.
Madden 2004 - Michael Vick = Fractured right fibula in preseason. only played about 5 games that season. The Falcs have never been the same
Madden 2005 - Ray Lewis = Torn right hamstring in his 6th game. ravens have a 6-10 season
Madden 2006 - Donovan McNabb = crying mcnabb say i like to call him. all i can say is, he didn’t eat his chunky noodle soup. too many damn injuries.
Madden 2007 - Shaun Alexander = asked if he believe in the curse, and stated no. what a dummy. Broke his foot against BIG BLUE (NY GIANts).
this one hurt me the most, being that i had him on my fantasy team.
So the curse is real.

I think coincidence was put to rest after it happened twice. This has happened to at least five guys who were supposed to be in their prime. Look at the guys now:
Eddie George- completely out of the NFL
Daunte Culpepper- backup for Joey Harrington
Michael Vick- has been tagged "uncoachable"
Marshall Faulk- forced to retire after several injuries
Shaun Alexander- after MVP season, injured for most of the year
Donovan McNabb- injured every year
I wouldn't want to be on the Madden cover...

It's pretty creepy! I'm sure that it is coincidence but if I was offered the chance to be on the cover, I would certainly think twice lol!

No. Its the the NFL. Its a brutal sport and you have a high chance of getting hurt. Also when you are on the cover, its usually the high point of that player career and most likely a downturn from that point.

Sure. The extra pressure to perform probably hampers their ability. Pretty much everyone in America plays the game.
