My body normally tries to fall asleep at 8 pm and wake up at 3 or 4 am. This is not helpful because I work normal daytime hours, leave the house by 7 am and come home at 5:30 pm.

So my personal schedule leaves me with no time in the evening for my family and husband, and way too much time up alone in the wee hours of the morning with nothing to do.

I've tried staying awake longer in the evenings, but I always wake up at 3-4 am anyway and just get more and more tired, without managing to sleep any longer the following days.

I've had this weird sleep schedule since I was a child and have never managed to get out of it. Anyone have some ideas or am I some kind of extreme early-bird?

you sound like you have the same sleep schedule as me, it can really wear you down, especially since i want to fall asleep at about 7:30 of 8:00 pm, this schedule doesn`t work for my family since they have a normal sleep pattern, i talked to my doctor about it and he said it`s not healthy, since no matter what time i fall asleep i`m up at 3:00am, even if i force myself to stay up until midnight. He gave a prescription for ambien cr wich helps a little, he said i have to try to change my body clock, good luck with that. talk to your doctor i`m sure he/she can help.

I'm sure that each person is different, but I work days sometimes and night sometimes and in order to swap from one to the other I'll stay up very late to swap my sleep schedule around. If that doesn't work I'll stay up 24 hrs straight and then go to sleep when I should (as per my current schedule). Hope this helps.

I understand! I'm awake right because of the same reason the opposite sleep cycle. I was actually looking solutions up yesterday and i would suggest trying accupuncture...i haven't tried it yet but i actually plan on making an appointment very soon.
