dont be confused with the term dos (although most of us knew its an operating system) its only another representation of an operating system the "d" is the disk....today all OS are installed in the HD (still disk) why? because OS today has a very large quantity of instructions and don't fit into a single floopy disk. now forget about ms (microsoft), and d (disk) as all of this are just too obvious to explain.......OS works to communicate with the hardware of the pc, Os should have a user interface (a visual representation of the computer on the monitor that make sense to the people using the computer, OS must enebble to determine the available installed programs and run, use,and shutdown the program/s, lastly OS should enable user to add, move, and delete the installed programs and data......... and thats is for ten box. lol

LMAO Not the sort of question that can be answered quickly... Why not start searching the net and do something called "research" - you could spend a lifetime studying a subject as vast as how an OS works... and still only know half of it.
