After some sort of convincing my parents, I finally have a higher chance of learning Ballet next year. I am 13 and Singaporean. They have agreed that I learn Ballet next year only if I top my class at the end of the year and it is possible as I ranked the fourth position of the class in the teens'score and I just got to work harder...
I have a rather busy schedule with 2 Co-Curriculum Activities, Chinese Dance and Zither Esemble, which practices are about 7h 30min totally and I have piano lesson on Saturday which lasted for 30min.
Well, I am coping well in school and I don't find myself busy and there is still lots of free time. Do you think Ballet will affect my schoolwork? Is it quite busy when in Ballet?
I am considering of learning Ballet in the nearby Community Club which offers Ballet lessons for children 7years and above, only 1h a week!
Do you think Children Ballet class suit me? Is 14 too old to do Ballet professionally? I'm afraid that they will not accept me

ballet is best learnt young, but since you have some background in chinese dance, it shouldn't be too difficult to pick up. you might be embarrassed in the children's ballet class as they'll all be very young.

however, the thing is, you have 2 CCAs and 1 other activity (piano). it might be alright in lower secondary but when you reach secondary 4 or JC, you'll have a lot more to cope with. I'd suggest you not taking up ballet and concentrate on your other activities and excel at them.

Congratulations, Maria, on "sort of convincing" your parents. I'm very happy that you can start taking ballet next year. The next step, now, is to see if you can manage to take class for more than 1 hour a week. When students start learning ballet in their teens, they would have to take it for at least 15 hours a week if they hope to catch up and become professional. That means that you would have to drop other CCAs in order to fit that in.

But 1 hour of class is better than nothing. If you find that you love it more than anything, it will be easier to prioritize your schedule accordingly.

Be yourself and DANCE YOUR HEART OUT!! If you do that, they will accept you. You do have a very busy schedule, but schedule ballet around your other stuff. 14 years old is not to old to do ballet. If you'd feel uncomfortable with 7 year olds, ask if you can take private lessons. That way you'll work on just what you need to work on. That's my suggestion.

you are not to old but you should go to some real ballet school if you wanna do it professionally. one hour a week is too little, you should be doing it every day, I mean five-six days a week. and ballet takes a lot of time, it will be difficult to cope with everything you want, especially if you wanna dance professionally. anyway do your best and good luck!
