As it's name suggests, the PRIMARY way of contracting a STD (sexually transmitted disease) is through sexual means, whether is oral, anal or vaginal.

STD's (i.e. HIV) can be transmitted through the use of sharing needles.

Some STDs (i.e. Herpes, Trichomoniasis, etc.) can also picked up from contact with damp or moist objects such as towels, wet clothing, hot tubs or a toilet seat, if the genital area gets in contact with these damp objects. However, STD transmissions rarely if ever at all takes place via these mediums.

I got HPV and yes I am a virgin and have never had sex. I learned some time after that that any lady whether she has had sex or not is capable of getting it although most people think that you can get it from only having sex.

hi,
Some sexually transmitted infections, like herpes and genital warts, can be passed by skin-to-skin contact or through oral sex.
Even I didn't know the "skin to skin" part.
