It will have to be an older car.........much older..........or near the end of it's natural life. Sorry to be so blunt, but believe me it's true. The problem is, a car in that price range will probably end up costing you just as much as a newer model. The reason is, things start going wrong, tyres need replacing, parts are wearing, the engine becomes less efficient so needs more oil, water, gaskets, hoses, etc. The list goes on and on and unless you're a mechanic or enjoy/have time to maintain an older vehicle, it just ends up being false economy. If you really have to go down this route, then stick to Japanese cars, as they have a longer life span than similar European models.

3000 is more than enough to grab a good family sized car. For the best bargains look to cars that are used as fleet vehicles, so the prime candidates are Ford Mondeo and Vauxhall Vectra, although in my experience, the Mondeo beats the Vectra hans down for reliability (our pool car has 183.000 miles and is still going strong).
For your 3k you'll be looking at a 2001 Y reg model of the newer generation model with a medium spec (the one that looks more like a Passat than the older round body model) with about 60,000 miles on it. Believe me, 60k is peanuts to a mondeo. Build quality is first class and is eons ahead of its older round faced version.
The vectra suffers with sensor problems in the engine, and whilst not expensive, it renders the car undrivable, not good if your stuck at the shops and there is no warning. Mondeo has a "limp home" mode where it can run on 3 cylinders if need be.
If the Mondeo is a bit big, take a look at the 306. I'm not sure whats happened to french cars, as the three 306's (1 x XSi, 1 x GTi-6 and 1 x HDi) I've had have all been faultless, I bought a 307 and took it back 7 weeks later, it was junk and failed more times in those 7 weeks than all 3 of my previous 306's! Very spacious inside and turbo diesel HDi's are quick whilst returning 55mpg. 3k will get you a last of line model with all mod cons.

Hi, I have recently brought a Toyota Tarago, 8 seater. It is roomy and has enough room in the back for prams, shopping and bags. Maybe you should get a mini van or something similar around that price. There might be somewhere you can get financed for a car u know pay it off weekly or monthly. Check it out

A ford mondeo estate, you can pick a good one up cheaply, they have a lot of room on the back seat, the boots huge and they are cheap to repair and they are a good drive.
