No, I don't believe that there is such a thing as Sociology of Dance.
See, sociology is the scientific study of society in relation to human behaviour. On the other hand, dance means to move the feet and body rhythmically in time to music.
Therefore, there could never be sociology of dance, as no study is necessary to determine the reason for differnt steps or meovements of dance.
Dance is just for fun or relaxation.

As a field of specialized study, there is no such thing as sociology of dance.
However, accdg. to WorldCat, there is a book by Helen Thomas that analyzes the various sociological aspects of dancing in different cultural mileaus. Simply put, this book is an attempt to identify universal cultural patterns in dancing rituals and to explain why certain cultures are more acclimatized to dancing than others.
I do believe the book is entitled (or subtitled) "Sociology of Dance". Check it out - just google it.

There is a sociology of almost everything. The sociology of dance would refer to to a society of dancers, which could refer to any group of people who dance. There are religious groups like the shakers and dervishes who practice dance as an ecstatic religious experience. There are professionals who devote their lives to dance as an athletic or artistic expression. There is the modern "RAVE" culture that revolves around dance. The societies and cultural norms of any of these groups are distinct and vary widely. The study of any of these groups, would constiture the sociology of dance. The main focus would be on why they dance, who they dance with, when they dance, where they dance, what the dance represents, and how the dance describes and characterizes the culture.

Grupo F, I have just read three of your question about dance and science. Its okay, you don't need a reason to enjoy dancing, only an enjoyable reason to dance, being gay is not a science.

Probably. I just don't know of anyone who has studied it. Maybe it would be more of an anthropological sort of thang.
