Grupo F, by the time you finish reading all the responses to your 3 questions, you can actually begin writing a paper on the sociology of dance. Was this approach deliberate or just a case of serendipity? LOL

1. Dancing is psychologically therapheutic. Therefore, its function in society is to contain the energy of the person to more constructive channels.
2. Dance can stir emotions that mobilizes society.
3. Dance communicates and therefore can build relationships.
4. Dance has a power to build communities too.

There are lots of functions, some dances would only be learned by high socal status people and this knowledge displayed their station.
Also dancers tend to be very agile and strong with good rythem and these skills lend well to fighting so good dancers display that they are strong and a good fighter without the need for actual violence Its one of the main reasons men don't tend to dance because a bad display will put females off

From ages past, anything from cleansing the spirit, to cleansing another's spirit to cleansin a tribe. Middle ages, to sho grace and dignity within royalty. To day, all of the above and also as a mating ritual. Of coure there is also the "hot coal factor, and the insanity factor".

it is the fastest ' socially acceptable ' way to get close to a woman
a means of communication between the sexes - sensually
women do it because they find it fun
most guys do it for a date and more - I am included in this category - I dont like it - its a job - girls like it - I have to do it to meet them and or to keep one happy
