I didn't know the guy very well, but he and my partner went through a lot together. I'm being supportive in every way I can think - listening to him, helping organise the memorial, getting on with stuff around the house, reminding him he's loved - I just need some words of encouragement...

Thanks for your help. His friend had been suffering with cancer for quite a while. My partner spent most of last summer wallowing in grief and alchohol... So he knew it was coming and seems to be handling it as well as can be expected.

In a sense it's helpful for him to have things to do and organise as it will keep him focussed and stop him wallowing too much...

It's tough because everyone deals with grief differently. Probably the most important thing is to just be there and be supportive. Watch for clues as to whether your boyfriend wants to talk about his friend or just be left alone. Probably the most important thing is to not let him dwell on it for too long. If it was a sudden and unexpected death it may take longer to work through the emotions than if the friend died from cancer or some other illness.

Odds are your boyfriend will be fine after a week or two. If he starts to fall into a prolonged funk, remind him that you are still there. If this happens, you might suggest seeing a grief counselor.

Well the healing process takes time and as of this day nobody can speed it up. The best thing to do in this type of situation is to create activates such as games to play or cards. The worst thing to do is have idle time for him to Greece over his friend just keep him busy thinking. Or just make him laugh a lot humor cures any problems if u do those three things u should be a OK he will get over it when the time is right.

When someone has loss someone close to him. The best way is listen to what he wants. To him you he feels that you can give him the love that he loss. Sometime people can see that you are trying to your best and making sure that nothing happen to him and that is the best thing anyone can do in a time like that we all loss someone in our life and everybody has their own way of dealing with the loss. I have loss someone that was close to me and I had no one that I could of talk to and the only thing I did is cry but it did not help me,because their was one that I could of talk to or tell that person how I felt inside. I have not cred since 1988 and up to day I feel like crying but no one to listen to and see what I am crying about. So my advice is the things that you are doing is great and being for that person. You mint not see it that he is grateful but he is and that is the only thing that anyone can do in a time like that.

I am so sorry.
Sounds like you are doing what you need to so far. Be sure to be listening to him and let him talk and if he cries then that is good so do not think it is unmanly. He will get through this. Just continue being supportive to him.
