There's a lot of history to this question, more than I can quote you here, but basically when a territory has been conquered by Islam, it is always considered to be Islamic territory, even if it is taken over by someone else (Spain, India, and Palestine are three examples). Jews consider it their land because of the promise God made to Abraham in Genesis ("I give you this land to you and your decendants..... I will bless those who bless you, and curse those who curse you"). Muslims consider it Muslim territory that is being occupied by infidels, and Jews still consider it their "Promised Land". To be honest with you, I don't know what the real solution to this problem will ever be - but that's why it drags on and on without end.....

Rod, The peoples of that part of the world take there religions very seriously and are willing to kill each other over it. Here in the states in a more open and tolerant nation this is an alien concept. Don't sweat it in twenty years there won't be any one left in the middle east to kill each other as the rate of attrition escalates...
