I have a problem with my PC starting up. It claims there is no signal, i.e. monitor not connected. However, this is not true. I have checked and double checked and triple checked all connections. The monitor itself is not faulty, because if I leave the PC on with “No Signal” still displaying sometimes I come back to it and it has booted up and is at the login screen, so I know the monitor/dvi cable/graphics card are not faulty, but instead are just choosing to be temperamental.

I do not have a spare graphics card/monitor to try it out with but can anyone suggest any reasons as to why this might be happening?

A quick 10 points will be awarded to any plausible answers.

Probably a loose graphics card.

You should see if a friend can bring round a laptop to test the monitor and cable.

If someone has a spare graphics card to test, bring that along too.

if maybe a intermitent problem

But when you start up does it straight away display the NO SIGNAL or does it show the POST screen then displays NO SIGNAL?

If so then you may have a driver issue with the graphix card! Uninstall and reinstall see if the problem persists.

The BEST way to see if it is a intermitent problem with either the monitor or PC is to test the monitor on another computer (or laptop) and see if the problem persits > if it does then you know that it is the monitor > if not then the problem is with the pc

Try reseating the Graphix card

Hope this helps

Sometimes the connections of the cables become less sensitive.

Have you tried screwing the cables into place? (a lot of monitor cables have little screws on them just for this purpose).

Otherwise rearrange how your PC and monitor are set up - this might improve things.

Failing this, maybe try a friend's monitor cable to see if that might make a difference, suggesting a new cable might be the solution.

it is extremely a wierd undertaking, hardware frequently the two works or it would not. it form of feels you have tried various the failings i could have reported. My in basic terms final suggestion could be to envision the computer screen cable and make advantageous this is not any longer bent/wound up as this could injury the cable. to try this i could borrow a computer screen cable from a chum. you are going to be able to additionally examine the pins in the connectors are no longer bent or in simple terms grimy which will additionally reason this behaviour. The worst case senario is that your computer screen is failing wherein case it delivers up working altogether quickly. i'm hoping thats no longer the case. stable success

i also experienced that on one of my machine. if your monitor derived its power from the power supply of the CPU then try to connect the monitor to AVR for its independent source of power. that solution will reduced the amount of load on power supply thus diverting the power to the mainboard so that will boot up easily. monitor uses around 2000 volts on 15 inches monitor, so bigger monitor will require a greater amount of current to display.

so in your problem, the current in your power supply diverts its current to the monitor. in that case, your mainboard sense an insufficient amount of current to boot up that's why it doesn't starts easily

if there a some stages where it works and others that it doesn't it sounds like a refresh rate/resolution that does not agree with your monitor. if possible start in safe mode and see if it works there, then change to a lower resolution/refresh rate if it works.
