I press analyse and it says to defrag. I defrag and it says defrag complete. I press analyse again and it says it 'you need to defragment this drive'. This could go on forever. Any ideas anyone?

You might have a problem. How long has it been since you used the defrag. If you have a newer computer you defrag less.I would clean my computer first then try again.try ccleaner and ad-aware.Both are free at www.filehippo.com I have read that defrag does not speed up new computer much. Most problems come from crap on your system.A clean machine is a fast machine.

Do you have multiple drives? Maybe it defraged the first drive and then had moved on to the second one and you need that one defraged. I wouldn't worry about analyzing anything. I would just defrag the drive and be done with it. How long did it take when you defraged the drive? If it truly needed that, it should have taken quite a while. I usually defrag mine right before I go to bed so the operations performs overnight.

Maybe worth using scandisk to look for hard drive errors. Is your drive very full? If so, clean out the junk you rarely use, this will make defraging more efficient!

Windows' own defragmenting software's crap. Download third party sofware like system mechanic and it will do a better job.
