First visualize what is in the map with your creativity. now relates what is in the map with your idea. say exapmple delhi is in the bank of yamuna river at northern India. now come to map where is yamuna river. like that go ahead.
also you must know all the symbols used in the map. symbols for road, railway, river, mountain and so on. if you through all this you can read the map very easily.
