Are there any philosophical movies made? I don't know if my question makes sense but I hope you understand what I'm trying to say. I'm not after some weird cult stuff. I just wanna watch some challenging, life-changing, motivational, inspiration movie that has a lot of philosophical elements in it.

Silence of the Lambs(more of psychological nature thought)
The Prophecy
City Of Angels
Twelve Monkeys
Sixth Sense
Down To Earth
Disney's The Lion King
Da Vinci Code
The 13th Ghost-(not sure if it is the right title)
Green Mile
The Dragonfly-purely Philosophical and Psychological
Rain man
The awakening
The Deer Hunter(1970's)
Contact-Jodie Foster
Just to name a few

Like some already stated most movies you watch have some kind of philosophical bent, the fun part comes from determining what within these films is derived from whom or from which school of thought!

Some good films have already been names although The Matrix was left out and it was almost completely taken from the works of Descartes(there is also a book that contains articles written about The Matrix by philosophers and is really good for those just starting to get into philosophy). A couple good Existentialist films are Vagabond (French) and I Heart Huckabees. Schindler's List is also good for examining ethical issues and free will(and its just a great movie).

Film and philosophy, what a great combination. I (Heart) Huckabees is a nice existential flick with a bit of humour and a great cast. For something a bit more obscure you could try Pi, and if you are looking for the cosmic punch line, Monty Python's The Meaning of Life is a side-splitter. Of course, if life affirming and inspirational (which is sort of philosophical) is what you are after, then Hollywood has loads.
