Do you think the average person seeing a fancy yellow diamond would appreciate what it really is? Or do you think they would just think its a bad quality over yellow diamond and only think white is valuable?

I think it is common knowledge that a very canary yellow (fancy) diamond is more valuable than the white.

However, in terms of being able to appreciate it when you see another person wearing it, maybe not so much.
At first glance the average untrained eye would probably pass it off as a topaz or a yellow sapphire, whereas a white diamond would earn a second closer study.

Just a little side note, for synthetic diamonds, it is the fancy yellow diamonds that are produced most often.

Ok, first of all - if you are asking this question with a potential engagement ring in mind, trust me, yellow diamond isn't appropriate (if it's not an engagement ring, skip this paragraph). It is true that white diamonds are popularly favoured for their pure, clear quality. As an engagement ring is symbolic of marriage, love and all that jazz, the kind of ring is important as it symbolises how a person values the other person. A yellow diamond would be unflattering in an engagement ring as it's not as "pure" and "clear" as white diamonds, yellow in association to white being perceived as "off-colour". Remember, it's all symbolic (and it's supposed to be a grand, sincere declaration of love too). If it's a case of wanting to stick with a certain budget, remember the lower the carat, the smaller the diamond. This site has some good info about diamonds: http://www.delphidiamonds.com.au/colour/colour.html.
It explains that "The colour in diamonds graded K -Z (slightly tinted diamonds to yellow diamonds) detracts from the beauty of a diamond. It's especially noticeable set in platinum or white gold."

As an accessory, the yellow diamond might be interesting, but not worth buying, really, when there are more affordable and more aesthetically-interesting gems.

So, I would say it's highly unlikely the "average person" would appreciate a fancy yellow diamond.

This is a good question!! I work in a jewelry store that carries the fancy yellow, and I am so surprised that so many people find it appealing! I assumed when it first came in that folks would just think it was a poor quality stone, but everyone wants to know how much it is and comments on how beautiful it is. I had my "fancy yellow" vs "bad quality yellow" speech all prepared and never got to use it!!

I don't like yellow, so I don't like yellow diamonds. White is classic and pretty, especially in silver. I realise yellow diamonds are still diamonds but they aren't as pleasing to me so money value maybe be the same but if I had to decide which one I like better white would definitely come first.

VS1 & VS2 (VS1 denotes larger readability than VS2) - Minor Inclusion meaning the inclusion is extremely undemanding for a knowledgeable graded to be certain decrease than 10X magnification yet no longer seen to unaided eye. SI1 & S12 (SI1 denotes larger readability than SI2) - major Inclusion meaning the inclusion is major decrease than 10X magnification and can or won't noticecable to unaided eye. to that end, i might propose you to compliment the two VS2 or SI1. the cost for those 2 grade is less high priced and often does no longer have eye seen inclusion. in spite of the undeniable fact that while you're picking emerald shrink diamond the place it has a great component (table) on the suited, the inclusion ought to nevertheless seen to unaided eye for those 2 grade.

i like yellow, it's different. i personally think that diamonds are overrated and boring. i don't see why some girls get so worked up about it. it's a ring, not so much a declaration that you'll be together forever but i'm not a fan of marriage either... the idea of having to live with someone else and seeing them constantly is frightening. i guess i'm just weird.
