I know you can download Arcade games and gamer pictures and stuff... But is that it, I don't see the point in spending that much money on just those things...?

that's basically it. 20 bucks for 1600 pts. I understand why some things cost, like unneccesary things or things that give you an edge in a game but others are just dumb. IE if you get the godfather to get the top weapons in the game you have to buy them with microsoft pts and then again with game money.. im not kidding.
Luckily a lot of these things are free like maps and such. I would only spend my pts on arcade games, my bf occasionally buys themes or pic packs

The majority of my MS Points have been spent on the added content for Oblivion. I've had at least another good 10 hours of gameplay, for little cost. With the new Shivering Isles expansion due in March (with 30 hours of extra gameplay!), you can really expand some of the games you love.
That said, many games have little to purchase on the Market Place. It really depends on the games you own, and whether extra worthwhile content is available to purchase.
And then, of course, there is Live Arcade, which is great if you like retro games.
I would suggest you browse the Market Place, and see what is on offer, and whether you then think its worth a purchase.

you can buy a lot of old or new arcade games, add ons to games such as oblivion-the wizards tower and also background and pictures to personalize you daseboard

I have them, but I can't stand Microsoft Points. Why did you have to buy things when you already own the games? I have 2300 and I have not purchased one thing with them.
