Praetorian is of course correct as relates to the problem, but in real life that won't work. Seat belts and bucket seats render the question moot.

the movement of his girlfriend is due to inertia. inertia moves in opposite direction relative to the motion of the car. say, if the car turns to left, his girlfriend moves to the right. however, if the car made a sharp right turn it will makes his girlfriend to moves to the left- going to the driver.
