Firstly you need to find out what graphics card you have - ie PCI, AGP or PCI express. This is the most important first step because you will have to purchase the same type.

Then you will need to look at the specs of the new card - ie will it work on you operating system. And do you have enough RAM?

When you have got your card - you have to open up the the computer - usually you can remove the side off the PC

Now locate the graphix card --- The easy way to see where you graphix card is --- where your monitor plugs in >> this will be the graphix card.

Usually there is one holding screw - you need to remove this - then there will be a release clip for the card - when you press this the card should pop out

(************* Before you start touching the inside of the PC you need to ensure that you either gave a anti static wrist band or you earth yourself *********)

Now with you new card insert this in the place where you removed the old one and put in the holding screw
Replace the side!!!

Start you PC

Your PC should say found new hardware - Now insert the installation disk for the graphix card

That SHould do!!!

If both graphics cards are PCI it will be pretty easy. You will need drivers for the new card, but those should come with the card when you buy it, usually on a CD. You can also download them if necessary.

If your new card is an AGP and your old one was a PCI (different sockets) you will probably have to make some changes to your CMOS. They are simple and self-explanatory.

Ask where you buy your new card what you'll have to do, and they'll probably be glad to help you.

If your old graphics card is an integral part of your motherboard you'll definitely have to make CMOS changes, but you may need to get some special guidance on how to make them.

Just to add on to the answer you got already. I undarstand that not everyone is technologically updated. Some motherboards have no AGP port or PCI Express...

So this means: if you need to change to change (or upgrade the default graphic card on the motherboard)... you should buy a new motherboard with AGP or (preferably PCI Express).

I believe it is always wise to spend a few bucks more on technology because you don't always have to go back to the shops. (unless of course you live in South Africa - anything can happen to your expensive computer at anytime)...

Anyway good luck
