You may already be on there but myspace is a good place to start.
Here's my friends band's site to give you an idea. Click on artist sign-up on the right hand side. It's free to have your own page and you can network with other myspace users to introduce them to your band and get them to listen to mp3s on your page.

You can start a music profile at myspace(www.myspace.com), you can record your songs and upload it there for everyone to hear! And there are many good bands that are unsigned there.. And millions of people surf myspace everyday so yeah! Or you can sign up for a music profile at purevolume(www.purevolume.com) too! Its something like myspace. But in my opinion myspace is better.. I mean everyone has a myspace, your friends can add your music account and put it in their "top 8" so that their other friends can check your music out!
Also, another way of promoting your music is playing some gigs and stuff. Maybe record a demo and distribute it in school.

Garageband.com is a great site. It has some kickaxe bands all original music in many categories.
They run contests for best of each category with winners getting 250,000 recording contracts.
You can also promote and sell your CDs there.

I have known my local radio station, VIBE FM, to do it before now, although it does depend on what kind of music. They are based in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, England.
Good luck!!
