You can now sell your art on the streets or in NYC Parks without any license or permit. An advocacy group, A.R.T.I.S.T. spent the past 13 years winning you this right. Please check out our website. The site has all the vending laws, which streets you can and cannot sell on and lots more. You may also link to our site and forward the address to other artists you know.
We welcome you to join.

You may not need a license to sell your art as much as you may need a permit for setting up shop on the street. It's better to contact the local government about "local vendor permits" instead of earn a reputation for being a "street solicitor".
There may also be restrictions on exactly where on the street you are allowed to do business. Inevitably you'll have some "uppity yuppie" tell you you're not allowed to do it and when you can show them your permit and give them the finger it will give you a satisfaction you cannot compare.

Yea and it isn't all that difficult. Just go to the town hall and buy a permit for street sales and that way when the police or other authorities ask you to leave or produce the proper credentials, you simply produce the legal papers the municipal government has issued to you.
There you have it; a simple and effective means of keeping a small business in the open air and on the streets. All legal.
Wish you all the best bud.

You should check out the laws in your state, call your local government information number such as 311 and ask them. You probably don't need any license as an artist but you may need a vendor's license.

nope i don't think so. i also sell my sketches in school and no one is telling me off so far. maybe that's one of the freedom given to all artist, to showcase their talent everywhere. you might get discovered and popular. That's what is happening to me now and requests are pouring. it is also a good solution for kids who does not get allowance from their parents.

No. My brother does it in Philadelphia. His team and him set up tents and stuff, and sell their artwork. It's pretty cool. They're going on tour! You should check them out.
