Hello everyone. I am a fairly healthy 23 year old. I recieved the depo provera shot in early October. While I had the shot, I had a monthly cycle, very light but existent nonetheless.Come early January when my next shot was due, I decided not to get it again(because of all the horror stories I have read!). The end of that week, I had a normal cycle, not light at all. So here is the question. Today marks the 46th day since I have seen AF. I don't know if this is because of the shot or if I am pregnant. Me and my husband haven't been very careful in trying not to get pregnant, if you get my drift. I have taken two tests before the two week marker and they came out negative. I did a test also at the doctor's office and it was also negative (which was taken about about 8 days after the possible date of conception). Is pregnancy a possibility or did the shot just completely screw me up even though I recieved it one time.Help!

I was on the depo shot for almost 4 years with no problems. In that 4 years i never bled at all and once i stopped taking it my period came the next month then i was pregnant 11 months later.

It could be that your body is just trying to get back to normal.
If your blood and urine tests were negative then your not pregnant.

You can certainly get pregnant after your three-month Depo shot has worn off, which it has by early January. So long as your pregnancy tests are negative, you're not pregnant. But you will be in the near future if you keep having unprotected sex. Yes, Depo can make your periods different or irregular for a while after you come off of it, but that doesn't stop you from getting pregnant.

I'm no doctor but I've had my rounds with depo!! And I will tell you YES.....that stuff can screw up a woman and her cycles like nobodys business!! That is most likely what is happening to your body. That stuff is so strong, it takes some people "years" to conceive after stopping their shot. (I have read literature and know several people this happened to). You made a good choice to stop that mess now...I can't believe it's still on the market!! I went through some serious hormonal (and mental) challenges while coming off that stuff! Give yourself lots more time, and hopefully it will get out of your system for good soon!

depo is ghastly. banned in some countries. absolutely don't go back on it. yes, it does mess with yr cycle - bleeding is just the end of the cycle - not all of the cycle. you have had far too little time after coming off it to generalise if things are 'normal'. absolutely stop taking risks if u do not want to be pregnant.

Unfortunately both are a very real possibility. See your dr for another check- and in the mean time you may find that seeing someone like a QUALIFIED naturopath may help you get your hormones back under control
