If you have the money then go for it. Good luck!

I would recommend just waiting. I know it's so stinkin hard though, I wanted to know so badly. I had an ultrasound at 16 weeks and they couldn't tell the gender; had to wait until 20 weeks. I wanted to buy stuff so badly though! Week 19 is technically when things start to be more visible, this is what one of the baby sites says (link below):

Week 19:
If baby is female the uterus starts to develop. If you're having a girl, the vagina, uterus, and fallopian tubes are in place.
If it's a boy, the genitals are distinct and recognizable.
Your baby is swallowing amniotic fluid and his or her kidneys are making urine.

I am currently 33 weeks and having a boy (Jeremy Michael) :) Good luck and I hope you find out. If you go ahead with the scan anyways, find out if they do anything different if they can't tell the gender (refund, discount, try-again-free, etc)

hi, i really wanted to find out at my 16 week scan but couldnt quite tell the sex then so she said to ask at my 20 week scan, that is tomorrow and i cant wait but the last 4 weeks have flown by. i would wait untill 20 weeks if i were you but still have the 4d pictures, the £50 will be well spent.

if you have the money spare then go for it.,...i couldnt handle waiting till 20 weeks to find out the sex of my little one but i waited because at the time i didnt know you could pay to have scans done i thought the only ones you could have done were the ones the doctors booked for you otherwise i would have been having scans much sooner then the 20 weeek one i had. good luck and i hope you have a healthy little boy or girl!!!

It depends how you feel about scanning really. There is some argument that scans are not good for the baby. Personally, I feel that scans should only be carried out for medical reasons and not for fun.
But if you believe they are totally harmless, and you can afford it, then go for it. I'm sure you will enjoy it. Private scans are also much more detailed that the NHS one you will get at 20 weeks and they will spend much more time with you.

Hey dear,

First congrats for the baby. I suggest if you love the idea of preparing for the baby then go ahead and do the scan. You may need the money for it but if you cannot wait on your toes and are so much in a hurry please go ahead and do the scan. I wish you the best and hope you have a successful baby with the clothes and room and the cute designs that mothers toil to provide for the newborn. i can understand and as I am from India, I know how much the mothers want to provide for their little ones.

Bye

i think you should wait the 4 weeks and save the money to spend on your child, i know how hard it is to wait for the date but they do that cause alot of the time you cant really see at 16 weeks but as long as the baby is in the right position at 20 weeks there is nothing stopping you from getting a glimpse of your little guy or girl. i think you should wait and see. it wont hurt you to wait a little and a little anticipation is good for a person.

Think of it this way.... £120 is a lot of money to find out the babies sex when you'll find it out at 20 weeks anyway. Think of all the lovely baby bits you could buy with £120! tiny baby grows, that extra soft teddy bear, or even treating yourself before the baby comes, believe me you'll miss the freedom, (even tho babies are amazing) If you think having 4D pics will make the difference, then go for it, but when you've had the baby, you'll get to stare at it's ever move for the rest of your life :)

Goodluck x

I would wait if I were you. you say you have the spare cash but, wouldn't it be much more fun spending the money on gorgeous baby clothes instead! my first baby was a surprise and it was wonderful. find out at your next scan if you are desperate to know but believe me a surprise is much better!

I WOULD WAIT TO FIND OUT THE SEX OF MY CHILD. YOU CAN ALWAYS BUY YELLOW OR EVEN GREEN WOULD BE A GOOD COLOR FOR EITHER GIRL OR BOY. WHAT IS THE AFFECTS OF THE TEST. WILL IT AFFECT THE BABY? TRY WAITING, IT IS A BEAUTIFUL THING TO FIND OUT WHAT YOU ARE HAVING BUT IT IS ALSO BEAUTIFUL TO WAIT THAT WAY YOU ARE SUPRISED. CONGRATULATION ON THE BABY. HOW DO YOU KNOW IF IT IS ACCURATE? THEY COULD TELLYOU THAT YOU ARE HAVING A GIRL AND YOU HAVE A BOY INSTEAD, AND VICE VERSAL HOW WOULD YOU FEEL THEN. SO WAIT IT OUT LOVE AND ENJOY THE LITTLE BUNDLE WHEN IT COMES OUT. JUST COUNT THE FINGERS AND THE TOES. CALL IT YOUR BLESSING WHILE YOU CARRY IT. I WOULD GIVE MY BABY THE NAME OF LOVE WHENEVER I SPEAK TO IT. ALWAYS TELL THE BABY THAT IT IS YOUR LOVE. GOOD LUCK

4 weeks isn't that long to wait, and you can already start picking out names for a boy or for a girl (and that way if you have another kid later you'll have a reserve of names you like to choose from).
Instead of calling it "it", call your baby "little Samuel or little Elise" (insert your names here). sounds longer but more human, which is what you're going for.

You can also start buying baby furniture (clothes can wait another month, really). Baby furniture doesn't necessarily depend on the sex of your child.
