when we was growing up my brother was in prison, and i remember being in the doctors when they called my name to see the doctor, two people starting saying "that's her brother who is in side" (we had a unusual surname)
So i polity turned round and said "yes he maybe, but I'm not and we are two very different people" i left with my head held up high, they had very red faces.
But i did find people would treat me differently before i got married and my surname changed.
I would also write to him on most day's, just telling him about the things that i had done, even though it was probably a load of rubbish, he said that he looked forward to the letters, and it helped him get through.
So try and write to the person a lot, it does help.

People don't necessarily "treat" you differently unless you are the one in prison. As for how you cope, one day at a time. You keep on loving them and stay in contact as best as you can.

WHEN YOUR LOVED ONE GOES TO PRISON IT MAKES YOU CHANGE FOR THE BEST. IT SHOWS YOU HOW TO PRAY. AS FAR AS FOR PEOPLE TREATING YOU ANY DIFFERENTLY I DON'T SEE IT. YOU DIDN'T DO THE CRIME SO WHY WORRY. YOUR FAMILY MEMBER HAS DONE THE CRIME AND IT IS HARD ON THE FAMILY TO BE WITHOUT THE LOVE OF THAT LOVED ONE, BUT YOU GET OVER IT AND YOU FIND COMFORT IN THE LORD. YOU DON'T EVEN RECONIZE THE OTHER PEOPLE. IF SOMEONE TREAT YOU ANY DIFFERENTLY THEY ARE IGNORANT TO LIFE. SO TO COPE WITH IT IS TO PRAY, AND COPING WITH IGNORANCY IS A DIFFERENT THING IN ONE. YOU SEE THOSE PEOPLE AND YOU DON'T SEE THEM AND YOU HEAR THEM AND YOU DON'T HEAR THEM. KEEP YOUR HEAD UP HIGH AND BELIEVE THAT THINGS WILL WORK OUT. AND IT WILL AS LONG AS YOU GOT THE LORD IN YOUR LIFE.
