What do you know about Alaska? Many people think that they know things, but some of what they know is innaccurate and quite funny. Without any Alaskans replying, what do you know or think you know about Alaska? What have you heard?

this question is just what it asks. there seems to be popular misconceptions about alaska, that I find a little interesting. When I was in Louisianna visiting my girlfriends family, they asked if we used US currency. Did I take a dog sled to work? Do I live in an igloo? Do I eat whale for dinner and seal for lunch? Do children have to take a dog sled to school? I am not making fun of any of the answers, just am curious as to what people think. For the record, there are a lot of paved roads here, no Interstate though. Highways yes, but no interstate. Oh, and if the Canadian told you that there was 126 people, well, given the exchange rate that translates into what? 400 people?

Its cold. Everyone there is an Eskimo, including you. They only use whale oil lamps and everyone is forced to spear their own living food from the ocean to feed their families and their whale oil lamps. If you are not careful you may get accidentally speared by a one eyed Eskimo that missed his mark when he was going for the penguin. The total population is around 126 people and its kind of cold because there are not enough people per square mile to keep each other warm like they do in bigger cities like Los Angeles. Oh yeah, and its cold.

It's HUGE! Almost 24 hours of daylight during a certain time? Can grow nice veggies, cost of living is higher, beautiful state, it's NOT the North pole.

I was there in the summer and it was beautiful.

It was great to get away from the summer heat in Texas for a few days and got to see one of America's last frontiers with majestic mountains and intriguing glaciers.

There's daylight until very late into the night so it was great for sightseeing!
