Mammalian charateristics ... some are obvious, some are crucial in their presence
1 - Rhinos breathe air
2 - Rhinos are homeothermic (warm-blooded)
3 - Rhinos have hair
4 - Rhinos have live birth
5 - Rhinos nurse their young (mammary glands - where the word mammal originates)
6 - Rhinos have a 4-chambered heart
While singular traits listed may not be mammal specific, the ultimate combination of these characteristics define the rhinoceros as a mammal.

First of all, a rhinoceros bears its babies alive, it does not lay eggs. It is also a warm blooded creature who is more adaptable to climate than, say a reptile. Even though it isn't obvious, the rhino does have hair growing on its thick skin. By the way, woolly rhinoceroses existed thousands of years ago. And finally, the female rhino provides milk for its babies. That is what makes it a mammal.

Mammals are warm blooded, feed their young with milk, and have hair. Rhinos don't have much hair, but they do have some (fine, like elephants). They meet all other of the requirements for being a mammal.

Characteristics of mammals:
1) The presence of hair/fur.
2) The presence of mammary glands (regardless of gender). Mammary glands are more developed in females and thus are used to produce milk to feed to the young.
3) Mammals give live birth.

Like humans, it gives birth to live babies (not eggs), it suckles its young from milk it produces from its teats, it has hair growth on its skin (though less compared to humans) and has an advanced brain and nervous system of mammals just like humans

It is very big, all the biggest animals especailly on the land seem to be mammals. this is because you need to be warm blooded to be very big otherwise you could never move around. elephants are very big too.
