For me, really only the legal benefits. I've never been too fond of the concept of marriage, yet I'm engaged and the two reasons are 1) I plan on spending the rest of my life with the guy I'm with anyway, so I might as well get all the rights and privileges the government gives to those who are married, and 2) it's what my fiance wants and I want to make him happy and if that means marriage, then I'll marry him.

Couples think that by getting married it seals the deal and that they are less likely to split up.
Usually one partner is insecure in the relationship and the other one wants a monetary commitment to stay.
But I too have double standard, I would want my daughter to be married.........

to have someone to spend the rest of ur life with, not to mention having kids. sure it has its down side, but once u get old, u'll see the difference. many singles wonder why they did not marry because now that they think they're too old to do so, they feel lonely.

I think the only real point is the legal benefits. However, those legal benefits are also the down side of trying to get divorced.
