There really isn't as much racism as there was after the imancipation and the incoming other races and nationalities started to become more frquent. The reason it seems that way is because races are living and working closer together than ever before in the world. The same as the old saying the more you drive the more likely an accident will happen eventually. The population keeps growing. The land in which they share becomes smaller and smaller. The world is truly very congested now and some people cannot tolerate change as well as others. Somewhere around 6 billion people of all cultures trying to live together is an awesome thought. You can either love it or hate it. It's an individual thing. I'm glad I love it. Me and you and others who are like us will just have to accept the fact that we are more likely to remain happy no matter who we live next door to. That's a blessing, don't ya think?

Did you have someone murdered during the 9/11 attacks? My guess would be no. And it's not racism that's a problem towards middle easterners, it's the ACT that took place that's the problem. White folks save racism for African descent people and other minorities.

I don't think it started with 9/11 but it was surely amplified on that date.
You have to look at what is racism and what drives it.
Racism is discrimination based on race and discrimination is something intrinsic to the human nature (isn't natural selection a form of discrimination?) but we need to differentiate between constructive and destructive discriminations. This is usually where it goes wrong.
Without proper upbringing and surely with a lack of wisdom that would allow people to learn these basic concepts, they fail to accept and tolerate the superficial differences related to a race (or whatever attributes that differentiate people), then they become racists.
Then it surely starts from very young age through imitation of adult behaviour, which makes this attribute an automatism that is very difficult to reverse.
Once a racist has set its mind on a target it stays on course for a long time... so I wouldn't expect this to change anytime soon.
The 9/11 attack was simply a spark.
The fuel (islam vs. christianity, way of life, race, etc.), wrongly attributed to this event, was already there ready to be ignited by the fire of senseless discriminations.
By the way, we shouldn't forget 9/11, but we should only condemn the ones that commited this crime, not an entire race, nation, people, religion.

Your question is a paradox. You ask why is there racism and then when you bring up middle-easterners and 9/11 you answer your own question. Or didn't you mean middle-easterners in general? If that is the case you should never have mentioned 9/11.

humanbeings are generally nearsited when it comes to racism or balming an entrie ethnic group, the contributing factors include , high gas prices, 9/11, the uss Cole, the Embassy Bombings, the media's portrayal of Middle Easterners as terrorists. The governemnt of course encourages prejudice, as it brings more support for the war adgenda. Its no different than when the media hyped up American Indians as murdering savages, the only good NDN is one whos dead..etc played up in the press, promoted by the gvernment's manifest destiny policy

a number of those responses are ridiculous. As an American, i'm beginning as much as comprehend how racist Britain certainly is. embody variety quite of questioning "Oh no!! they're taking on". I literary have acquaintances from just about each and every subculture which you may imagine, and it has in fact made me a greater useful man or woman. Even the deep south of the U. S., which has a foul recognition for racism, isn't close to as undesirable as what I see on a number of those message boards. I grew up in a community the place i grow to be the only white youngster, and that i grow to be at circumstances discriminated against, yet i do no longer make generalizations of all minorities because of fact of it.

Racism means stereotyping and categorising other people on account of their nationality, skin colour, etc. which unfortunately seems to be a human characteristic. Despite having language, cultural background, customs etc. in common with others each human being is still an individual. It is fear of the unknown and ignorance which leads to racism.
Racism dates back long before 9/11 and again, there is a tendency for people to blame an entire community for the actions of a few.
I agree with Gorilla - by all means condemn the individuals responsible for the attacks, but we shouldn't blame an entire people.
