When i run a game disc in my xbox 360, there is a really loud revving sound accompanied by a sound that sounds like something inside the system is shaking; or tapping sound. is this normal?? i'm afraid it will scratch my cds.

my previous xbox 360 did not sound like this at all. it was a samsung drive. this current xbox 360 is a hitachi drive.

There is something loose in there. Do you have kids? Perhaps one of them put something inside it through the breather holes, like a coin?
My X-Box makes a rivving sound, too, but it is soft, not loud. You might want to open the X-Box, and check inside. You will need a special tool to open it though. I had to use this same website below to give my X-Box a good cleaning, because it was acting funny, and the disc tray wouldn't open. It works pretty good now.
