yao can give you 20 and 10 and he wont lose games because of poor free throw shooting.

Yao Ming is the most dominant. Dwight Howard is too young and not there yet, although he will be the most dominant big man in a few years (except maybe for Greg Oden). Marcus Camby is great defensively, a bit old, always injured. Eddy Curry is getting pretty good, just not dominant and he didn't even make this years allstar team. Shaq is old, injured and gets in foul trouble too easily now that he's slowing down and the game's speeding up.

For the first time in many seasons, it's not Shaq. While Shaq is still a major force to be reckoned with, the title has got to go to Yao Ming. He scores with hooks, turnaround jumpers and great positioning. On defense he uses his length to disrupt plays. Even though he's slow and not flashy, he is definitely the most dominant center right now.
Amare Stoudemire is explosive but he still needs a setup man (Steve Nash). He might be the best at pick-and-roll though. Dwight Howard is a beast but his offense is still raw and not able to produce 20+ points consistently. Marcus Camby, Ben Wallace and Eddy Curry are a notch below them. Though officially a power forward, Tim Duncan plays center a lot and is right there at the top.

Has Shaq made his team go from pretender to contender since his return from injury??? No definately not, even without D.Wade they still should not even be mentioned in the same breath as even Toronto right now.
The most dominant center in the game right now, who is healthy is Dwight Howard, this kid is putting up spectacular numbers night in night out, all the while shooting at a fantastic clip from the field and the line for a big guy.
Amare Stoudemire of late has shown a return to the form that had him as one of the most feared match-ups in the NBA 18 months ago he is a very very close second right now.
If Yao was healthy and playing like he was earlier in the year it would be him hands down. You could mention Camby, Curry and a bunch of others, but none of them are in the echelon that Howard and Amare are.

If Shaq was healthy I would have to go with the "Big Fella".He has the rings.Dwight is amazing after watching him on Allstar weekend his stock went up.Anyway the rules in the NBA are not made for big men anymore.Gone are the days of a Big man roving the paint unrestricted .Now Big men have to watch out for well disguised zones and usually ends up in foul trouble.Today's NBA is catered to the European players who's game, is the outside shot or 3 pointers. In my day I would love it, when a team played a zone .To me that meant the outside was open allday ..Now fans want to see 3's in bunches.Gone, is the hard play under the boards by which the big men were evaluated .It is hard to evaluate today's Big men, because now big men shoot from outside and line up amongst the perimeter Shaq is considered old school now cause the rules have hampered him as a player. The fact that he still can dominate from that position may make him the best when healthy.. .

I have to go with Dwight Howard and in a close second Amare Stoudamire. Shaq recently has been playing well with D Wade out, but I believe Alonzo is the best center on that team.

Dwight Howard, kid is very explosive and a smart basketball player for just being 21/22 years old.
