It's very hard to find a job with good pay, when you're just starting out. I suggest this: take whatever job you can find and do it as if it's the absolute best job you'll ever have.

Why? It's simple, really. Business owners and managers look at a person's attitude. If employees get to work on time and do a good job at whatever they have to do, they get noticed. If the customers are happy with the service they receive, they'll mention whoever is giving them good service to the managers.

We make our own luck in this life by treating other people as we'd like to be treated and by doing a very good job at whatever employment we can find to do.

When people are happy with your work, they will think about promotions and raises and so on. If you come across as nice and polite and don't rock the boat or call in sick if you want to party, etc., they'll begin to give you better hours and so on.

The important thing is to remember that nothing happens overnight, so we have to stay with it. And, you know yourself, a bird in hand is much better than a bird in the bush.... or... a paycheck this week is much better than a possible paycheck in the future if I quit this job.

Sometimes we have to put up with a lot of b s to get where we need to be. But it won't always be that way. One day, you'll find your dream job and so on, but for the time being, take what you can find and make a good name (reputation) for yourself. It'll pay off.

You are going to have to start at the bottom and work your way up. You need to find out what you are interested in. Like do you know anything about automobiles? Or carpentry? Or welding? Find you something that you like and start from the bottom and work your way up. Get yourself a job as a counter man in a parts store and sell auto parts. You can get good enough to become a parts manager in a few years. Or become a welder an get out on your own and do welding from the back of a truck. Or be a contractor and build houses from the ground up. The sky is the limit when you are young. Don't let anything hold you back. Don't let anyone tell you, you can't do anything.

Being young and starting out in the world is HARD!! I am 21, so I know how you are feeling. I personally work only part-time cause I stay home with my daughter most of the time. My husband works as a welder and makes decent money. But I occasionally take on side jobs cleaning houses. Even though it is hard to be young and starting out in the money making, bill paying world, it is do-able, don't get discouraged. You also asked about starting a career, what are your skills? If you know how to do something well, try to get a job with that skill(s), or advertise your skill on craigslist and try to get some independent jobs.

Well I went through this sort of situation & what I learned is that get to any job, even if it is of below your qualification, so that you have some sort of income to keep you going.

Then as the time passes by you will discover some new contacts & when people see your hardwork they might offer you a job in their company, but mind you, when you get such offer, don't instantly say yes, take your time & think before opting to go for other job, think wether the new job will be usefull to your career or not.

Because if you go for other job instantly & later you find the circumstances not suitable for you then my dear you are back to squre one & I'm sure your first boss won't be feeling to keep you back because you were just using him.

I hope I've explained you enough to get you going, the rest depends on your talent.

hi. everything would be OK. you're only 20.
I'm from Russia and it's pretty hard to find a good work here. i was trying for about 6 months. and i found a really cool job with good team and conditions. but the 1st of March is my last working day here. i decided to quit because i found a better job.
be positive and you'll get what u want. the main thing - when you are on interview and when u start feeling that's this place is really yours show deep interest and say: "I want to work in your company and be part of your team".
I understand your feelings but don't loose your hopes.
To accomplish great things, we must dream as well as act.
Good luck! I'll cross my fingers
