Scrapbooking tells a story and has actual meaning for peoples lives. Americans are tired of see paint blobs on a canvas thats called art!! Art is not what they have in places like the Metropolitan Museum of art. Its what a bunch of people who cant create anything that actually resembles anything specifically human feelings and emotions. "This peice makes me feel happy" and its a smudge of yellow on a black canvas.

It seems to be. There are even craft shows on TV that are all about scrapbooking. I've done a little of it myself, but came to realize its sort of pointless. You take a lot of time, often a lot of money to get together the supplies and craft items to make a scrapbook. You relive memories and spend a lot of time puttting it all together. Then put the scrapbook on a shelf....and likely never, or rarey ever look at it again.
Blah!
I started making Scrap Posters. I just use a regular poster frame, and use the same principal of a scrapbook, but put it on the poster board. Some are big. You know, the big full size posters, some are smaller, but when they are done, they've got a nice plastic coated cover, a frame all set up and ready to hang on the wall. I have a big living room with a vaulted ceiling that was terribly underused. So, I made some scrap posters of vacations, family reunions or other events that are significant to me and my family. Now, everytime we go through the living room, those happy memories are on grand display, inviting a grin and a giggle everytime I see them. They can be changed out over the years, and the posters are still good, no matter how long they are around.

Umm.......your comment kind of lost the tone of a question there at the end. leaving me wondering if I'm answering the right question.

Yes, scrapbooking is VERY popular - but will never replace "art". Scrapbooking is currently the fastest-growing craft industry out there - and has been for several years! But there are still a bunch of people that look at it as a waste of time.

I personally am not a fan of any art that needs a paragraph of text and "explanation" to go with it, when really the artist just dropped his pallet face down on a canvas, then ran over it with his bike. I prefer a recognizable picture.

Scrapbooking is considered a "craft." Not art.
It's not so new, either. It became really popular in the 1990's.
People still paint and draw and do very well at it. My sister and her daughter are true artists. I am more of a crafter.
