cheaper, can be billed as an american band even if not big in US. kind of a second rate, like people who don't get in the NFL go play in the european leagues.

or do you mean like a world tour that begins outside US and goes there? i suppose some may want to work out the kinks. idk

Because it's easier to be recognized or heard in own country than other.
They tour to other countries to expand the market so they can sell more records.

They want to test the waters out on other countries before trying it in America where they can make the big bucks.
