or would you find it strange when a friend doesn't want to share with you his / her personal problems, just because they fear they would bother or bore you?

Usually I am pleased that a person would respect my time that way. Ultimately the person will come up with their own solution to problems anyway and advice you give them is wasted breath.

I find it a little strange, but I also understand that there are just some things that certain people feel uncomfortable talking about, even with their closest friends. For some people, it just takes time to open up...I am definitely one of those people myself, because there are still a good amount of things that I've never told anybody but God.

Why would it upset me?....just because we are friends it dosn't mean i have the right to EXPECT them to tell me everything...that's what freindship is all about allowing each other to just be... besides my friends know me well enough to know i am always there for them and vice versa, but getting upset because i feel they would much rather keep their problems to themselves is slightly silly if not childish, i think, my freinds have a right to keep whatever they want to keep to themselves, they are under no obligation to tell me everything if they don't want to that is what makes friendships grow acceptance...friends are like flowers if you water them with care and love they will grow.

I wouldn't find it strange, I'm not that eager to share my personal problems with anyone either

I have a friend like that. She doesn't want to tell me anything because she thinks it will bore me. I think they just don't like to talk about themselves. But it does make me upset because it makes me feel like they don't trust me, or want to tell me things that are personal.

I know someone that does this and I do it myself...

It's not that I get upset, I just feel like shaking them and saying "WHAT ARE FRIENDS FOR IF NOT TO BE THERE FOR YOU AND LISTEN?!?!??!"

Yeah, that's pretty much it :P

But to get upset implies not having enough respect for their own choice.

I just let them know I'm always here and that they don't bore me.... Friendship is a two-way exchange of communication, honesty, trust, and devotion.

I don't suppose I could find fault in that. for I never share my problems with anyone for those very reasons.

no. sometimes good friends value the friendship far to much to bog you down with their problems. you probally feel that your supposed to be that shoulder to cry on but not all the time. sometimes problems can break up a friendship forever.
