what is the best way to mix out or eliminate loud power-hiss & get max vol out for vocals. This has been a constant problem for us & we can't seem to get on top of it. We also can't put the bass amp into the mixer because it rattles the speakers too much. We are using 4 JBL collumns w/4 12" speakers in each. Do we need to seperate the bass into larger speakers & if so, what size do we need ? The club we play is about 30'x70' and has a metal roof & concrete floor and no decent acustics.

If you go to a local large audio equipment rental place, they usually have a sound engineer on hand who can sketch out a plan for you, he will usually do it for free too.

#1 make sure you have a top quality power conditioner to help clean up the power supply. Most small clubs have a crappy electrical circuit that is tied to the large refigerators and freezers, so sometimes getting around that will help out a lot.

#2 Your bass issue sounds odd. You may want to try renting 2 18 inch bass AMP speakers and see how those work, but it sounds like there is some sort of input separation problem.

#3 You may want to run your system through a BBE sonic maximizer to see if you can improve some of the imaging of the room, but concrete and steel are always going to be tough.
