They "do it" when there is a full moon... most every night. That would be a week.
2nd verse has to do with how wolves and dogs howl/bark when there is a full moon. Also suggests werewolves. But they are saying "yes, they are out there, doing their own thing, aka, dancing, howling, etc." but the couple in the song is m*****g love.
You know what they say about a "full moon". Yes, I would certainly call it an allegory for the connotations of a full moon, because they do say right at the start "When that old moon gets so big and bright". They are talking about themselves, while knowing the many folklore tales about a full moon.
