It starts with a guy in the electric chair and he's whistling the song "time is on my side"... long story short this criminal's spirit gets transfered into another person's body and the detective (or cop... I'm thinking Denzel Washington, but I'm probably wrong... he also has a son that is somehow involved...) he knows it's this same killer because people who the killer inhabits keep whistling the same song...
What the hell is the name it's driving me nuts!

Definitely Fallen. That movie had the wickedest ending.

By the way, the tagline was "Time is on my side..." ;)

The movie your thinking of is Fallen. Denzel Washington and John Goodman are in it. There's an evil spirit, demon that was in the guy in the electric chair. It transfered out of his body into someone Else's. Eventually it ends up in John Goodman and then Denzel, who are trying to stop it.

ok....weird... my boyfriend borrowed a ton of movies from a friend, and I'd seen that movie sitting on his floor for a while, unopened. I thought it looked pretty good, and we decided to watch it last night. I didn't end up seeing the whole thing cuz I had to go home, but I think it's pretty funny that Id never heard of this movie before, and the day after I watch it, there's someone talking about it. lol

oh, and a little help. if you are ever bugged by not being able to remember a movie or something, just go to IMDB.com. if you remember one of the actors in it, you can put their name in the search engine, and look at the list of movies they've been in. with someone like Denzel Washington, it would be a little more of a search, just cuz he's been in every movie ever made, but sometimes just seeing the title of the movie can refresh your memory.

Fallen

Police detective John Hobbes, played by actor Denzel Washington, gains notoriety for capturing wily serial killer Edgar Reese. Immediately after Reese is executed, Hobbes is plunged into the case of a killer who seems to be copycatting Reese. Hobbes's investigation soon leads him to discover that this is no copycat, however; Reese himself -- or at least the evil that was inside him -- has managed to survive the execution, and is jumping from one body to another to continue killing, and to terrorize Hobbes himself. As the battle of wits between good and evil becomes increasingly personal for Hobbes, he must turn to a theologian's theories on demonology as his only hope for defeating the demon that was inside Reese.

Fallen is notable for turning the Rolling Stones lyric "Time Is on My Side" into an ominous theme repeatedly sung by Azazel, the demon who had possessed Reese. The film is also notable for its unique portrayal of villainy; due to Azazel's tendency to switch bodies at whim, the villain is performed by a different actor in almost every scene (or sometimes by many actors in the same scene).

The striking feature of the film is narration provided by Denzel Washington throughout the film. At the end of the film, the final line of the narration breaks an assumption held by viewers and catches them off-guard.
