This may sound a bit crazy, but it's what I was told. I am not a religious person, so I don't know much about this kinda thing. I was contacted by a foreign Bishop (I am in the states) and was told that I should look into my family history as there was someone of great importance and interest. I have no idea what this means or if it was a hoax. He did mention something about the Teutonic Knights (which means nothing to me). Does anyone have the know-how or resources to piece some of this together for me? I will pay someone if you are able to come up with real results, whether they lead to someone of importance doesn't matter (since you aren't the one who gave me this info). I was told to find this info asap, again I am not sure why. The mystery of it all grabbed my attention and sparked my curiousity, so here I am. Obviously simple ancestry website yielded ZERO info. If anyone has any idea on what I can do, I would appreciate it!

It depends on where your family are from. I work for the General Register Office in London which, unless your family is English or Welsh, is no use. However I am sat in work at the moment and have to hand a list of useful contacts and one of these may be of use.

www.cyndislist.com is a list of genealogy sites with over 240000 links.

www.rootsweb.com the oldest of internet genealogy sites.

However it is also common occurence in this job to hear stories of people's past and have to tell them that in all likelyhood it is not true and usually an embelishment by a crazy relative or even, as your story sounds, an internet hoax. Email them back and just wait until they ask you for some money.

Plus as far as i know the teutonic knights were based in central and eastern europe and operated around 900 years ago. Most countries will not have civil records beyond 200 years - ours are only 160 yrs old.
