Is human life so cheap in India that since these suicides began almost a year ago it hardly makes news anymore ? What is the relevance of grandiose questions like 'how can we free our planet from terrorism ?' when we cannot find solutions to such pressing problems. Someone from Hollywood came down to Andhra Pradesh & is raising funds for the widows & kids these farmers leave behind. No similar efforts by any Indian organisation. Isn't it a shame?

In the towns and cities you see people madly burning buses and blocking roads for the death of film star or celebrating with mad frenzy the release of a matinee hero in some criminal case... You find eloquent speeches of political leaders - who have made fabulous buck in the political business and entrenched their heirs in their party posts - about the plight of farmers and their dream solutions... The sad comedy is going on side by side with stories of suicides of helpless and dejected people...

The exploitation of traders - not just exotic type like the Monsanto or Novartis type - but our own local traders (Mill owners and whole salers) have been exploiting the farmers... Someone has rightly mentioned the fabulous price for which the final products of agriculture are sold.. but what a pittance the primary producer gets...

Our Finance Minister and PM talk of GDP growth and economic reforms... but all this would benefit only the secondary and tertiary sectors... The mineral water sells at Rs.10 litre and milk sells at much less than that for a litre.. We are so insensitive to the plight of our own rural brothers... We drink foreign soft drinks at exhorbitant cost but do not see if the local farmer is paid for his toil properly...

Govt is only a sample of our society and our collective insensitivity is reflected in the Govt apathy as well.. Just one or two social activist shouting and fasting would not solve the crisis that shakes the farming community... We should all care to alleviate the injustice, the pains of this community... else history willnot forgive us..

You have taken a very good question on hand. Please repeat such eye opening subjects frequently.
Village people get very low prices to their products. Only due to povery they are unable to get united.

Otherwise they should sell fruits and vegitables at 300 % prices. Even then retail prices at city will remain same as of now. Unequal distribution of income is a very Big problem in India.

Politisians have never paid proper attention to this problem. United workers in all other field enjoy better earnings, salary, perquisites. Lets search better candidates in next elections.

Harsh reality of live:
The shirt costs $50 in USA store
The shirt is charged by "US manufacturer" $15
The shirt is produced for $4 in India
The worker and farmer get $0.1 per shirt, if lucky
The India state charges taxes of the $4, the US from $50
The farmer dies of hunger or commits suicide.
Who is in the better position to help, India or US?
