Hello
You can get internet in your desktop by connecting your laptop only if your laptop has another lan other than wireless lan...

Assumed that ur using winxp.

If you have that then in laptop go to
N/w Settings -> setup a home or office n/w -> This computer connect directly to the internet. The other... -> select your wireless n/w in the next step -> select the lan your are using to connect the desktop in the next step.

then in desktop
this computer connects to the internet through residential gateway or through another computer

You can do this by connecting the 2 PC's together via either a twisted Lan cable or a hub and 2 cables.

You would then use the Conection Sharing software included in XP.
In principal, this would use the wireless adapter in your Laptop to connect to the Internet and then share the LAN connection in your Laptop to your Desktop.
But why don't you just buy a wireless adapter (USB is easiest) and plug this into your desktop. You can then use the same Wireless connection to your router?
