I'd agree with Dennis that the most important battle was the Battle of Saratoga and I'd also agree that it was the turning point in the war.........but Dennis doesn't say why.
Here's the why.
Burgoyne had set out to isolate New England from the rest of the colonies and his defeat meant that this did not happen and vital links throughout the revolutionary forces remained intact.
Howe had captured Philadelphia and the Americans confidence was at a low ebb. Saratoga helped to restore this.
Most importantly, after Saratoga, the French decided to enter the war against Britain. This also brought Spain in as an ally to France, so Britain found itself in an international war, rather than a revolutionary uprising.

There are 2 good responses to this. One, Saratoga certainly has to be considered since it led, directly or indirectly, to France entering into the conflict on the Americans' side. That, coupled with the ultimate failure of Burgoyne's campaign and the casualties suffered, definitely makes the case for Saratoga. The second would be the Battle of Trenton. Though not a huge military victory (the British-allied Hessian force numbered about 1000), it nonetheless was extremely important in that it halted a string of demoralizing losses suffered by Washington's army the previous year. It was a big morale boost not only for the soldiers involved, but for the Patriot cause as a whole.

It replace into Saratoga, not Yorktown. They call Saratoga the turning ingredient of the Revloution for a great reason. Benjamin Franklin have been in Paris attempting to get French help for the creative reason, and it replace into the yank victory at Saratoga that tipped the scales. The French, classic competitors or enemies of the British, have been sympathetic to the yank rebels as a rule because of the fact the revolt tied up British militia materials. however the French did not prefer to throw good funds after undesirable, and that they mandatory a demonstration that the yank Revolution would succeed in the previous they lent monetary and different help. After Saratoga, the French loosened the handbag strings, offering palms and munitions to the colonists, and later redirecting Adm. de Grasse's French Fleet from the Caribbean to the coast of Virginia the place the French blockade sealed Cornwallis's destiny at Yorktown. with out French help, desirable American fulfillment would have been a much extra questionable proposition.
