It depends on where you are. At my school, the GATE program is mainly in after school academies. During these academies, students are taught foreign language, computer skills, rocketry, drama, art, research skills, and other classes. It is based on the knowledge that GATE students are naturally inquisitive, have a deep desire to learn more deeply than their peers, are sometimes too hard on themselves, and that while the rest of the class is looking for answers, they are asking the deeper questions.

The GATE programs here are pull out programs. The students get pulled out of their class one day a week and get bussed to another school that houses the GATE program. It offers students an opportunity to explore things that they wouldn't get to in a regular class. Because your slower learners and behavior problems are not allowed in the program, the students get to do more hands on, project based learning. Right now our GATE classes are building model businesses and having a business expo!

More exposure to a deeper understanding of subjects than a student would get in the fast-paced regular classroom. More materials available for exploration, and competition amongst others that can keep pace with the student's growth. Teachers are also well-trained to handle the specific emotional demands of being "gifted."
