Having lived in many parts of the world, there is one quality that is really admirable and not encountered in other places: The CAN DO attitude that Americans have. It is the spirit of how can this get done and not that it is a priori impossible as many other cultures respond.

1. Our willingness to give to other countries while asking nothing in return.

2. The freedom and ability for an individual to make a life for himself. No one is pinned down to a particular way of life no matter how dire his or her situation may seem. This is the land of opportunity.

3. Citizens have a right to criticize Bush without having their tongues sliced out or families murdered such as was the practice under Saddam's iron fist.

4. Etc . . .I'm sure there's much more, but that's what I can think of off the top of my head.

The things that makes the USA great, is our freedom, our bravery, our ingenuity, and the common belief that all men are created equal. It's theses things that separate us from most of the outside world. I don't believe that that we have reached the top of what we can achieve, but i believe that we are on our way, we have been on the way since the birth of this nation, this is the only way to explain how such a young nation has been able to make such a big impact.

Josipa D...."Why do you think that world sees you as a "great" country?"...... please explain all the immigrants that are either in or trying to get into the USA.

We have the uncanny ability to make fun of ourselves and criticize our selves without fear of Government arrest. That is part of our Freedom. There is no country that gives more to countries that need it than the United States. I am not talking about our Government, I am talking about its citizens giving to others. Yes, greed is rampid in our country, but, the power of Freedom still out weighs anything else and is our greatest offering to the world.

The Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.

And, no, that's not facetious. The fact of our relative isolation early on as a nation allowed us to develop a freedom that no other country possessed.

Majority of the people have not had that 'empty pride' in them, practical people, you all are outspoken, open-minded, courteous and liberalised. You produced a lot of extraordinary artists, music, movies, innovators, and so much more.
