That doesn't make any sense. How does someone start a country with words. In God we Trust is on our money because of tradition and I personally don't have a problem with it. However, people that believe in facts not fairy tales should not be subjected to religious nonsense every time the hear the Pledge of Allegiance! Get your bible and go crawl back under your rock!

""A long habit of not thinking a thing wrong, gives it a superficial appearance of being right, and raises at first a formidable outcry in defense of custom."" - Thomas Paine (Common Sense)

Think about that for a second. Then think about the fact that we started this country on a foundation of individual rights best embodied by our Bill of Rights and the phrase, "Don't tread on me."

Patriotism in the day of our founding fathers was was seen as being a free thinker and questioning things INCLUDING your government. This patriotism was embodied in an individualistic spirit...NOT the collective bleating of a thousand little sheep in school pleding their support to a group of individuals that may or may not be behaving in a virtuous manner.

Why is nationalism a good thing? Can anyone answer that? Nazi Germany was nationalist in the strongest sense of the word. So was Japan in World War II. Didn't we learn that lesson the hard way?

Doesn't nationalism really go against our American philosophical tradition? I think it does. I think the reason why we broke away from England is because we refused to BOW TO A FLAG that didn't represent our interests! Didn't John Locke (the British philosopher that inspired our founding fathers) talk about how we have a right to overthrow a government that becomes antithetical to our best interests? Didn't he also say, "The tree of liberty must oft be refreshed with the blood of patriots and tyrants?"

What you conservatives never understand when you accuse people like ME of being "anti-American" or "unpatriotic" is that those words aren't a game to people like me. They are very real. The founding fathers were REBELS, not straight laced "Yes men" kowtowing to a piece of cloth.

Perhaps you should think about THAT first and foremost before you start talking out of your butt about American history.
The founding fathers were opposed to democracy because they thought it was synonymous with MOB rule. They were OPPOSED to collectivism and sought to check it whenever possible by establishing competing checks and balances in various forms.

The founding fathers would NOT have been supportive of a "Pledge of Allegiance."

The Communists sure would have agreed with the pledge in spirit since their school children sang the Internationale (The Communist anthem) every frickin' day. So would any other statist or facist that believes in the primacy of the government over the individual. Perhaps you would be better suited in one of those countries and not this great United States of America?

Perhaps you should really ask yourself if the pledge is really as American in spirit as you think or if it is really just an appeal to tradition (which Paine cautioned against)?

Then slap yourself in the face because our pledge wasn't "banned" in any sense of the word and in your zeal to make a political statement...you ignored the facts. If people don't want to say the pledge, they don't have to. They must stand up, though.
So unless that constitutes a "ban" I really don't know where you are getting your facts from.

Our paper money has only carried the motto "In God We Trust" since 1957.

This country was founded on the other word: Liberty.

As a side note, if you truly trust in God, you should consider that it's a sin to pledge allegiance to any flag. It's called idolatry.

We didn't start this country with "In God We Trust" -- that was added to the Pledge in 1954, due to fear of communism. It wasn't even on coins until the 1860's, and it was the 1930's when it was required by law. Maybe you should ask why it was added, against the 1st Amendment?

It is due to change in our Country mind set. Most of the Founding father had a Christan veiw on Life . As we move to the to this day Christan veiw on life has change to one Which is more of sinful. Thus Less people see God as an important in thrie life why a Country can lesser view of God .

Actually, we haven't banned the Pledge of Allegiance. There ARE, however, a few idiots who want the attention of complaining about it (read: Newdow).

There are too many ignorant bleeding hearts in this country, and the only way to keep it from becoming something other than what our founding fathers meant it to be is for every American to stand up and tell them that we are not going to take this! The minority, the athiests want to squack, and the ignorant ones listen instead of to the intelligent ones.

Because the extreme leftists do not want God mentioned in any way when it comes to government and our schools. This is offensive and it should not be permitted to happen. If a person does not wish to recite the pledge with the phrase "under God" then that person should not say it. Simple. These extremists should not be permitted to tell us what we can and cannot say.
