i've been love with someone over many yrs and havent talked to them in 2. know them for 10. the feeling wont fade. but i have been in another relationship for over 5 yrs. does it mean i'm supposed to be with the first guy or am i just wishing to have what i had with him. (very caring..etc)

There is no way to tell with the information provided. My sugestion, although not the easy path, investigate mateing instinct of mamals, Neitchie's theory of love being just for procreation and compare these to your feelings for this man.
If they folow the similar plain i.e. Physical attraction as in touching, holding, cudeling, sex, etc. then it is just your body saying that this is the best genetic match for you.
However if they don't follow that plain i.e. Emotional love as in feeling good to just be in company, very little dependance on physical stimulus (no need to touch), 'deeply' happy when things go right, saddened when things go wrong for this person, deeply concerned about the other persons position and feelings, etc. then it may be something more than physical attraction.
All in all, wheather you should be with someone or other is a decision that can't be made by anyone other than you.

what you are wishing for is to have what you had, the oppretive words there are "WHAT YOU HAD". Should you get back together you will then realise why you broke up in the first place. there is no certainty of "THE ONE", so my darling like a song goes: "Love the one you with"
but then again "knowing is better than wondering" follow your heart and throw caution to the wind.

Everyone else is a gift. Most people do not know the person they are so they spend their life as a rudderless vessel aimlessly bumping into others asking if they are the one who will complete them.

You can be with whoever you wish, if you are not with them then you are not trying hard enough. However, that is not to say that everyone is as easy to get together with as others.
