I am 27 weeks pregnant and have been seeing my OB on a regular basis and have been getting ultrasounds every month. The baby is very healthy, as am I.
Today, I was mopping the floor at work. My boss (who's also my mother-inlaw:)) found out that I mopped the floor and she told me not to do that again. She said that she heard from a friend of hers that mopping can be dangerous. She says that the motions of mopping can cause the baby to detach from uterus. Is this true?

BTW....I do have another OB appointment on Friday, and will bring this up to him, but I wanted to know what you all think of this matter.

That is the silliest thing I have ever heard!! However, if your MIL is willing to do all the mopping, go for it!

Since you are healthy, there are very few things you should avoid altogether. You don't want to do any sort of sport where you could have a big injury, like snow boarding or water skiing, but running or swimming is ok. No roller coasters!

anything jarring is a bad idea, like horseback riding

any activity with a good risk of falling, such as bike riding or skating should also be limited or avoided completely.

The motion of mopping is NOT going to hurt you (unless you over do it maybe) or baby. The only risk, is falling on a wet floor, maybe?

There are all sorts of wives tales and old notions about things to do/not to do while pregnant. If you believed everything everyone said, you'd spent your entire pregnancy in bed.

You best bet, is to take care of YOU. In turn you're doing the best for your baby.

Congrats, by the way

Everyone will have something to tell you. My OB said no horseback riding, skiing or heavy lifting. From my experience you can do anything you feel okay with. I'm living in Germany, though I'm an American. The German doctors are a little more easy going when it comes to pregnancy. Get used to people telling you what and how to do things. It gets worse when you have a small baby. Good luck!

I have not heard of this. The things that I know are dangerous while pregnant are, horseriding; waterskiing and other fairly vigourous activities. Mopping would actually be soothing to the baby, I would have thought.

No sweetie, it's not true, just an old wives tale. What you should avoid is smoking, drinking, heavy lifting, standing too long, (it causes swelling in feet and legs), caffeine and eating lots of junk food. If you plan to breast feed you should also avoid garlic, onions and chocolate because they taint your milk, good luck and I hope you have a happy, healthy child.

im not sure about this but these sorts of things happen to me at work too, i'm 25 weeks so they're like "don't lift the ice bucket" or " don't sweep" its like too strenuous or something but just know they care, and take the advice just to be on the safe side....
it may not all be right either but as far as lifting or mopping just take it easy at work

that doesn't matter. More it is off ground things, like horseback riding and climbing ladders. Pregnancy is a condition, not a disease like some people seem to think

lap it up. why not enjoy others ignorance. that or she may just want you to rest and relax. this is the only time you will get away with asking others to do the crappy work.
