Yes, as a precaution: maturity to know that you don't have the experience and won't get it asking such questions here. AND
Things you have to buy: You will need hundreds of dollars worth of set up equipment.

I started a long time ago in snakes with Crotalus atrox ( Western Diamondbacks ). There are numerous species of Crotalus rattlers though, and for the most part they are not "ENDANGERED" as previously stated. Your problem is that in most cities they are agaist the law to own without an exotic animal permit, and many places require you to display education or other proof of competent experience before granting a permit, which also costs a lot of money in many places.

Most important though....as someone with experience who used to keep rattlesnakes and still catches them in the wild, I will tell you that you have no business with a venomous snake of any kind if you are here in Yahoo Answers asking what you need to know!

Umm for the most part it is NOT going to be possible for you to own a rattlesnake... for starters they are an endangered species in most places! Second they can kill you... even the so call devenomized ones can still be "hot" or packing a deadly bite. As this is usually done by hakes in there back yards. Cause a great deal of pain to the animal and may cause them to not feed any longer thus dieing on you.. if they don't KILL you first. I would recommend getting a rat snake or a whip snake... treat it like it was a rattler and see how many times you get tagged... then think what would have happend it if REALLY was a rattle snake

Would you have a Tiger, Elephant or Bear as a pet ? Rattlesnakes are in the same classification ... HAZARDOUS. Remember that.. they can hurt or kill you if you make a mistake. I have kept venomous snakes for years and have NEVER considered one a pet. Check your state, county and city laws FIRST, some have regulations. Things to buy, a good reptile hook (Fuhrman or similar) or several, a good clamp (Pilstrom or similar). Keep in mind, if there are children in the area that you will need a good lockable cage that does not have glass. ( Lockable is good even without children). Do some serious research on the cost and effects of snake bites ( this is good information... a serious bite can cost you up to $50,000.00 and can disfigure you for life).

A friend of mine has about 20 of them as pets. he built a shed to put them in and one wall is nothing but seperate enclosures (built into the wall) they all have locking doors built out of wood frames, and heavy duty mesh. It is quite the site to see that many poisonous snakes in that building. That is also where his band practices, the wirdest thing is the snakes seem to like the Bay city rollers music the best. I would recomend NOT getting one, unless you ALREADY KNOW the precautions you would need to take.

yea, if you have to ask about the precautions about a rattle snake, you sould totally not get one. If you really want a snake, start with a garter snake. Something with no teeth maybe....

if you dont know what the precautions are for poisonous reptiles you shouldnt own one. they should only be handled by experienced snake keepers. feeding them is truly a hazardous situation unless you own the proper tank setup with a middle piece of plexiglass to keep you away from the fangs, and cleaning the cage is an adventure also.

If you have to ask here, you are not ready. If you've never owned a snake, you are not ready.
