does every company, especially big & well known ones, have to be an equal opportunity employer? i don't know if all of them are serious about it, but i see that on the employment application. is that required or something?

so what if they are not a EOE? do they get in trouble?

I'm not sure if every company has to be an EOE but I suspect that there are some catagories that do not have to be. I do know that any company which handles government contracts is supposed to the EOE. That said, however, I'm pretty sure that there are ways to get around it. And what about those that are "Affirmative action" who give preference to minorities? Why can't they hire the person who is best qualified and give equal pay for equal work? I don't believe anyone should have preference due to race, religion, weight, or beauty.

I believe EEO laws cover all employers with 15 or more employees. If someone violates an EEO law, the victim can file a complaint with the EEOC, which will then investigate and possibly prosecute.

Also victims can sue in federal court under the EEO to seek backpay or hiring, etc.
